Just like what I said I love tarantulas, for me they are very attractive and interesting to watch.
Do you handle your tarantulas?
No. Handling just doesn’t do anything for them except stress them out. It’s selfish when you think about it.
Do tarantulas bite?
Sure, like many animals they do have the ability to bite, but most species are reluctant to be aggressive, choosing to flee rather than fight. Regardless, their venom is generally weaker than a honeybee’s and usually only causes mild irritation.
What do pet tarantulas eat?
Generally crickets, superworms, mealworms, dubia roach and blatta lateralis roach. Basically just about any insect. In some cases, with the larger species such as the bird-eaters tarantula, they can consume a adult madagascar hissing cockroach.
How often should I feed my tarantula?
For sling I feed them twice a week and for juvenile to adult stage I usually feed them once a week. If your tarantulas abdomen (the opisthosoma) starts getting thin or is shrinking, increase the feeding frequency. The abdomen is a good barometer of overall health.
Do tarantulas drink water?
Yes they do drink water and honestly I’ve seen mine. Just put a water dish on their cage and make sure that it’s not too deep so they can have access to the water.
Can tarantulas jump?
Not all tarantulas but only the arboreal species as they are live in the trees. Terrestrial tarantulas don’t jump as they are extremely sensitive to falling. A drop of just 2-3 feet can result in their unfortunate demise.
Are tarantulas fast?
Yes especially when they are threaten. On my experience, old world species are more unpredictable and move like lightning when the mood grabs them when compared to new world species.
How big do tarantulas grow?
Tarantulas grow bigger depending on the specific species. The bigger tarantulas in the world is the Theraphosa blondi also known as “Goliath Birdeater” that can reach up to 30cm when measured diagonally across the legs. While some average tarantula can only reach up to 13cm – 16cm via legspan.
How long do tarantulas live?
Females can live for up to 30 years, while males max-out at around 6-7 years.
